Online
Garden Catalogs Are More Practical
For many of you online gardening catalogs work better than
visits
to garden centres. Here's why.
- Plants are usually far higher quality
than those in assorted garden centres - they come direct from
specialist growers (while garden centres rely on rapid
turnover and
all too often don't look after plants properly),
- You get a wider choice than
garden centres offer - large online listings, sourced from a range of
higly selected nurseries,
- No
waiting in telephone queues - this year I
simply couldn't get through by phone to one
top garden supplier,
- Some top gardening catalogs never deal
through retail outlets,
- You save time,
- Offers and freebies are
frequently available,
- Printed catalogs are a
showcase, but don't
contain complete listings. They
don't tell you when plants are
sold out. Yet the online
listings are continually updated.

plants, gardening tools, compost, fertilizers, seed trays and gardening
accessories check out my

You have to consider the environment too.
Mail
Order saves fuel miles & reduces CO2
emissions. Tens of thousands of trips to garden
centres can be saved by loading the stuff onto lorries
that make round trips instead of many individual
trips. Not to mention the convenience to you.
Remember - though you may not notice it - there's a cost to using your
own vehicle. But with some online garden
catalogs delivery is free! With others you can
combine your gardening order with other items to distribute postage
charge instead of paying on each time. You
can even qualify for
free delivery based on order value. Amazon is ideal
for this.
And for many of you home delivery is preferable to travelling distances
with your pick-up, or squeezing a heavy load of compost or a delicate
load of plants plus the kids into a gleaming, getting cramped, vehicle.
* For tools,
U.K. garden
centres are often short of space and you only see a
limited range. They may for example stock one (perhaps two) brands of
lawn mower. Frankly it's not worth their space as bigger garden centres
seem to diversify into bedroom furniture, double glazing... you name
it. Of course you may get a cup of coffee and a sandwich. That's nice.
America garden tools don't
seem to have consistency in good design when produced
locally in so many different types. But reaching out to bigger
markets gives you access to tried and tested tool designs. Having
regularly worked with garden tools and studied their practicalities I'm
particularly keen to recommend some of the best in the world to you.
Of course
online
shopping can provide you with all-in-important
savings as producers
get direct access customers and make volume
sales. These savings can be passed onto to you - check out
Direct Gardening as an example.
